Over The Handlebars

Introduction

Hi there, Harpic here,

Have you ever wondered what cyclists are thinking about when struggling up hills, legs throbbing and lungs exploding?

I came up with the idea of writing down a few adventures on my mountain bike ‘Fergus’.  As I have been over the handlebars on several occasions thanks to deer, badgers, dogs and alcohol, I thought it the perfect title.

A big thank you to Kim for allowing me to share some of them with you.

Adventures on Jersey – St Helier to Corbiere

After strapping my spring collection of clothes to Fergus we jumped on a train to Poole where we caught the Condor Ferry to St Helier. On arrival in Jersey, it was a short two-mile cycle to our apartment, all up hill.

We plotted our routes for the weekend starting with the gorgeous ride up the old, disused railway line to Corbiere lighthouse. The route from our apartment took us along the seafront to St Aubin, all on superb cycle tracks where we picked up the cycle trail to Corbiere.

The trail is a three-mile slog to the lighthouse, but the scenery is astounding which takes your mind off the pain. Once at the lighthouse a drink and a well-deserved rest was needed. It was straight to the hotel bar for a pint and a quick snack while admiring the spectacular views.
